Leopoldo III is classified as a table grape variety with black-colored fruit. The variety is of Spanish origin and is mentioned in modern publications as rare, found on old plots with vine ages of about 65 years.
In scientific literature, the variety appeared in studies of the phytosanitary status of vineyards, where the presence of the Grapevine leafroll-associated virus 2 was recorded in samples.
