The variety is an indigenous Greek grape, historically associated with the island of Lefkada, and is identical to the Vertzami variety. It is intended exclusively for the production of red wines with notes of dark berries, plum, spices, and earthy undertones. Wines from this variety possess aging potential, including in oak barrels.

The vine requires a significant amount of heat for the berries to fully ripen. It is traditionally cultivated in Mediterranean climate conditions on hilly terrain and stony soils. The culture is characterized by limited vigor, moderate yield, and vines are typically trained using the "gobelet" (goblet) method.
