The variety belongs to the category of traditional (autochthonous) grape varieties of the Istria region. Its origin is a subject of debate, including theories regarding Greek or French roots.

Historically, the variety was used for the production of dessert wines, however, due to the high sugar content in mature clusters, it is also suitable for creating dry wines. The variety is distinguished by a pronounced rose aroma.
