The variety belongs to early ripening categories, maturing approximately two weeks earlier than the parent Pinot noir. The vines are characterized by moderate or low vigor. The leaves are small, with margins often curled downward, and turn predominantly yellow in autumn. The clusters are small, cylindrical in shape, and very compact. The berries are small, violet-blue, with juicy flesh.
The variety has moderate resistance to downy mildew and powdery mildew, but is weakly resistant to grey mold. The canes ripen well; however, under unfavorable flowering conditions, berry shriveling (millerandage) is observed. Early ripening makes the grapes vulnerable to damage by wasps and birds. The variety is suitable for the production of a wide range of wines, and in cool climates, it accumulates sugar and achieves polyphenolic maturity better than the original variety.
