Variety description

10 August 2026

The bushes have above-average vigor and upright shoots. The leaf is medium-sized, five-lobed, deeply dissected. The flower is hermaphroditic. The bunches are small, dense or medium-dense, cylindrical or cylindrical-conical in shape. The berries are small or medium, oval, dark blue with a thick waxy bloom and very thick skin.

The variety is of early maturity, resistant to powdery mildew, but susceptible to grey mold. Frost resistance is -19...-20°C; in regions of cover viticulture, the variety requires winter covering. The yield is high, reaching 6.8 tons per hectare.

Wines from Pinotage have an intense color, high acidity, and tannins. The bouquet contains notes of berries, spices, coffee, chocolate, smoke, and leather. If winemaking technologies are violated or unripe harvests are collected, undesirable tones of acetone or rubber may appear.
