The variety was created in 1882 by the breeder Hermann Müller in Germany. Genetic studies have confirmed that it is the result of a cross between the Riesling and Madeleine Royale varieties, and the historical name Rizlingszilváni arose due to the erroneous assumption of its origin from Riesling and Silvaner.

This variety is early-maturing and is a wine grape. Wines made from it are characterized as light and fresh, with notes of muscat, citrus, and elderberry, as well as moderate acidity. The plant is susceptible to downy mildew.
