Variety description

10 August 2026

The variety is of Greek origin and is cultivated primarily in the central part of Greece and on the Aegean Islands, including Samos. It is found under the synonyms Aritino N, Retino, and in some sources is identified with the Mavroudi Arachovis variety.

The designation N in the name indicates the black or dark blue color of the berry skin. The variety is autochthonous and is used to create full-bodied wines with a high tannin content.
