The variety was obtained by crossing Castets and Abouriou varieties. Plants have perfect flowers and are prone to berry shatter. The crop is not demanding regarding soil nutrient levels, while characterized by low winter hardiness, which can result in severe damage from hard frosts.
Due to late bud break, the variety tolerates spring frosts well. Wines produced from it are noted for deep color, full body, and aging potential, resembling the Cabernet Sauvignon profile. Currently, the variety is grown primarily in the wine-growing regions of Slovakia.
