Robin noir, also known by the names Rouge de Diolly, Salagnin, and Sasteigne, is a vigorous plant with productive, compact clusters of medium or small size. The berries are elliptical or round in shape and have juicy flesh and medium-thickness skin.

The plant has high susceptibility to downy mildew and is prone to flower abortion, while showing lower susceptibility to powdery mildew. The variety is capable of accumulating a significant amount of sugar at a relatively low acidity, producing a wine with deep color and tannins that is suitable for aging.
