The variety is of Greek origin and is historically cultivated mainly in the Peloponnese. It belongs to the category of wine grape varieties used to produce white wines and blends, including Retsina wine. The name represents a group of closely related clones that differ in color intensity.
The plant possesses high vigor and bud fertility. Clusters are large, leaves are medium or large in size with three or five lobes. Berry color varies from greenish to pink.
The variety demonstrates good tolerance to drought, winter frosts, and phylloxera, but is sensitive to powdery mildew. The grapes retain balanced acidity in hot climates, which imparts freshness and fruit aromas to the finished wines.
