The Rojal variety is the result of a natural cross between the Breval Negro variety and an unknown parent variety. Due to its limited distribution, it belongs to the category of ancient local varieties that are in danger of extinction.

The grapes are used primarily in winemaking to impart specific aromatic characteristics, body, and spicy notes to wines, and also possess a characteristic anthocyanin profile. The variety has an extremely limited distribution area in Spain.
