The variety originates from the northern part of the Rhône Valley and is intended for the creation of white wines, often in a blend with Marsanne or Viognier. The period from bud break to full berry maturity is 150–155 days. Vines are of medium vigor, clusters are small or medium, cylindrical, and of high density.
Berries are medium-sized, round, and acquire a golden-red or reddish-brown hue upon ripening. The skin is thin with a waxy bloom, the pulp is juicy. The name of the variety originates from the French word roux (red/russet).
The variety is considered capricious, with low and unstable yield. It possesses low winter hardiness and susceptibility to powdery mildew, gray mold, and white rot. It is sensitive to windy weather and requires mandatory training and tying to a trellis.
