The variety belongs to the species Vitis rupestris (rock grape) and is a clonal selection widely known as Rupestris du Lot. The plant is a vigorous shrub with smooth lanceolate leaves and large stipules. In natural conditions, it is found on rocky riverbanks.

The plant is not intended for producing berries for winemaking or fresh consumption, as the fruits are small and acidic. The main economic value lies in its use as a rootstock, which provides the scion part with high vigor, survival rate, and resistance to phylloxera, downy mildew, and powdery mildew, as well as drought tolerance.
