The variety is ancient and arose as a result of a spontaneous bud mutation of Pinot Noir. The vine is characterized by medium growth and moderate foliage, with medium-sized, rounded, and slightly divided leaves, often with a reticulate-wrinkled surface.

Bunches are small, cylindrical, and dense, resembling the shape of a pine cone. Berries are small, rounded, with a grayish-red or grayish-blue-red hue, covered with a waxy bloom. This is a late-ripening variety, reaching maturity in October.

The plant possesses satisfactory resistance to frost and diseases; however, due to the high density of the bunch, it is susceptible to Botrytis cinerea. Wines made from this variety are noted for their harmony and aromas of honey, nuts, dried fruits, and candied fruit.
