The variety is autochthonous to northern Dalmatia, where it has been cultivated for hundreds of years. It is genetically related to the Dobričić variety. The leaf is five-lobed, medium-cleft. The flower is hermaphroditic. The bunch is medium, conical, of medium density. The berry is medium, oval or round in shape, black in color.
A wine variety adapted to rocky soils and the climate of the region. The sugar content in the berry juice is 15–18 g/100 cm³, the acidity is 4–8 g/dm³. The wines are characterized as dark, full-bodied, with a balanced tannin and alcohol content, suitable for long-term aging.
