The variety is autochthonous to Central Europe, including regions of Hungary and Slovenia. In Croatia, it is known by the names Pušipel or Moslavac. Buds burst early, which creates a risk of damage from spring frosts, and the thin skin of the berries makes the variety sensitive to weather conditions during the late harvest period, which can last until the end of October.

Wines from this variety possess a pronounced fruit profile with notes of green apple, pear, citrus, and quince, as well as mineral shades. The high level of acidity provides the wines with potential for long-term storage and aging. The variety is suitable for the production of dry and sweet wines, including ice wines and those created from grapes affected by botrytis.
