The Ucelut B. variety is a historical variety known since the 18th century in the provinces of Udine and Pordenone. The name comes from a local dialect term meaning bird, which is associated with the high sugar content of the berries, which is attractive to birds. After a period of decline in the post-war years, the variety was restored in the early 21st century.
The plant is characterized by weak or moderate vine vigor. Leaves are medium or small in size, three-lobed. Clusters are small, conical, and loose. Berries are small, spherical, yellow-green in color, and covered with a thin skin with a heavy waxy bloom.
The variety is classified as mid-late to late in terms of ripening. Yield is moderate and stable. It prefers sandy or alluvial soils. A characteristic feature is the tendency toward natural raisining when left on the vine, which is utilized for obtaining concentrated must.
