The variety is an ancient Portuguese wine grape variety with synonyms Cachorrinho, Casarinho, and Uva de Cão. It is used primarily in blends to correct the acidity level of wines, although work is currently underway to revive the variety and produce limited series of varietal wines.

The bunches of the variety are small and compact, and the berries are also characterized by their small size and thick skin. The variety is characterized by a medium ripening period, low yield, and high acidity of the fruit, which provides freshness and longevity to the resulting wines with pronounced citrus and fruit notes.

Researchers note an interest in the adaptive mechanisms of this variety, in particular its resistance to climate change and drought. In international databases, the variety is classified as Uva Cão B, where the index indicates the white color of the berries.
