Primitivo is a wine grape variety genetically identical to the Croatian variety Tribidrag and the American Zinfandel. The variety name indicates its tendency toward early berry ripening.

The plant is characterized by vigorous growth. A characteristic biological feature is uneven maturation: overripe and green berries can be present simultaneously on the same cluster. The variety is susceptible to grey mold and prone to berry shatter, which leads to yield instability.

The variety is intended exclusively for winemaking. It is used to produce a wide range of red, rosé, and dessert wines, which are characterized by intense color, distinct structure, and aromas of spices and red fruits.
