Cultivation
Triticum aestivum L.
Common wheat has no specialized feed varieties and is used in livestock production as low-grade feed grain, as well as in the form of processing by-products and crop residues.
In the reference 199 varieties crop Bread wheat, where this is mentioned in the description.
In common wheat breeding, there are no varieties intended exclusively for feed purposes. Feed grain is considered to be produce that does not meet food-grade standards, for example, 5th or 6th class grain. In addition to grain, bran, flour mill waste, chaff, and straw, as well as forage from mixtures of wheat with other crops, are used in feed production.
A specific feature of using common wheat grain is the presence of anti-nutritional factors associated with high levels of water-soluble non-starch polysaccharides in freshly harvested crops. These substances increase the viscosity of chyme in animals, which reduces feed digestibility; therefore, it is recommended to use 'matured' grain in rations. Feed wheat is characterized by a high carbohydrate content and serves as an effective source of energy for weight gain in livestock.
