Avena nuda L.
A fungal disease of naked oats caused by the highly specialized pathogen Septoria avenae (teleomorph Phaeosphaeria avenaria f. sp. avenaria), which infects leaves, stems, and inflorescences.

The disease manifests as the appearance of dark brown or purple spots that gradually expand into necrotic lesions with a chlorotic halo. Pycnidia, the black fruiting bodies of the fungus, form in the center of the affected areas. The infection can spread to leaf sheaths, stems, glumes, and grain, leading to plant lodging under conditions of severe development.
Currently, no universally accepted system of races and pathotypes for Phaeosphaeria avenaria f. sp. avenaria has been developed. The genetic basis of naked oat resistance to this pathogen is not sufficiently studied, no specific resistance genes have been described, and most existing cultivars are characterized only by moderate susceptibility to the pathogen.
