Pea green manure

Pisum sativum L.

Peas as a green manure crop enrich the soil with nitrogen through symbiosis with bacteria and improve its structure with a taproot system. The crop is moisture-demanding and does not tolerate acidic soils; due to the accumulation of specific pathogens, it requires a four-year break in crop rotation.

In the reference 9 varieties crop Pea, where this is mentioned in the description.

The taproot system of peas ensures soil loosening and improves its water-air regime, while the phytoncides in root exudates contribute to the suppression of harmful microflora. For maximum enrichment of the soil with organic matter and nitrogen, the green mass is mowed and incorporated at the beginning of the flowering phase, as the concentration of nutrients in the biomass decreases by the time of fruit set.

In pea cultivation, it is critical to avoid sowing after other legumes due to the high risk of disease and pest accumulation. To increase efficiency, mixed sowings with cereal crops are often used, which allows for combining nitrogen fixation with comprehensive soil profile structuring. Peas themselves are a valuable predecessor for grain crops, providing them with yield increases.
