Variety traits
Prunus armeniaca L.
A complex characteristic of apricot resistance to adverse winter-spring conditions, determined by the ability of tissues to withstand frosts and the duration of the deep dormancy period of generative buds.
In the reference 35 varieties crop Apricot, where this is mentioned in the description.
For apricot, winter hardiness is a critical biological trait, which includes resistance to extreme negative temperatures during deep dormancy and the ability to withstand spring frosts following thaws. Evaluation is carried out using artificial freezing methods of shoots and generative buds with subsequent analysis of tissue damage, such as cambium, bark, and wood, based on a point scale.
High winter hardiness of a cultivar implies the ability to withstand frosts down to -30...-35 °C during deep dormancy, as well as to maintain the viability of flower buds during temperature fluctuations. The low winter hardiness of southern cultivars is caused by a short dormancy period: during thaws, they quickly resume growth processes, after which even moderate frosts of -13...-15 °C cause mass death of generative organs and freezing injury to the skeletal parts of the tree.
