The variety is a local genotype that was originally used not only for harvesting but also for preventing soil erosion on slopes. Under Sicilian conditions, trees of this variety are most often grown with a bush-shaped crown formation at a planting density of 400 to 800 plants per hectare.
The plant is distinguished by low ability to form root suckers and low susceptibility to the bud mite. The variety is being actively studied for scientific purposes to obtain virus-free planting material and using in vitro micropropagation methods.
