The variety is the result of crossing tetraploid Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) and tall fescue variety glaucescens (Festuca arundinacea var. glaucescens). It is an example of intergeneric hybridization aimed at combining the digestibility and sugar content of ryegrass with the abiotic resistance of fescue.

In scientific literature, the variety is mentioned primarily in the context of genetic studies, descriptions of genetic resource collections, and as an example of forage breeding.
