Vasilika Melissi is an ancient Greek variety of folk selection, common in Attica and the Peloponnese. The plant is a tree with a compact growth type and high vigor. The variety belongs to the Smyrna type, therefore caprification is mandatory for normal fruit ripening.
Fruiting occurs once a year, and the fruit ripening period lasts from August to mid-September. The medium-sized fruits have a pear-shaped or spherical shape and green skin with purple stripes. The flesh is dark red, dense, juicy, and highly sweet, resembling honey.
