The Vastesana variety is a local autochthonous variety from the Apulia region, Italy. The tree has medium vigor and an open crown. Leaves are medium-sized and five-lobed with an entire margin. There is a Vastesana nera variety, presumably a mutation of the main variety.
The variety belongs to the unifera type, producing one harvest per year, and is parthenocarpic. Fruits weigh 30–60 g, have an asymmetric pear-shaped elongated form, medium-thick light green skin, and juicy dark red flesh. The fruit eye is of medium width, bordered by white or pink scales. Good cold hardiness of the variety is noted.
