The variety was obtained through selection from the progeny of the Bor variety and a male plant which is a hybrid of Saaz and Northern Brewer varieties. The variety name is due to the characteristic reddish-purple color of the stem. The hop is classified as a bitter variety with dual-purpose potential, recommended for the second hopping.

The alpha-acid content is 9–14%, the beta-acid content is in the range of 3.5–5.0%. The farnesene content is less than 1%. The aroma is characterized as spicy and herbal, more pronounced compared to the Saaz variety.

Agronomic indicators include good growth vigor and a yield in the range of 1800–2200 kg/ha. The variety is typical for use in Bohemian lagers, pilsners, as well as in dark and semi-dark beers, providing a more pronounced and stable bitterness.
