The plant is a spreading, highly branched shrub reaching 1.5–1.8 m in height and width. The shoots are distinguished by their dark color, and a feature of the variety is the arrangement of leaves in whorls of three. There are mentions of a mutation of this variety with variegated foliage.
The inflorescences are of the 'lacecap' type with flat corymbose forms. The fertile flowers in the center are blue or indigo-blue, while the sterile marginal flowers are white with a slight bluish or pinkish tint. Flowering is prolonged, from June to September.
The variety has good winter hardiness and is capable of withstanding temperature drops down to -25 °C. The plant is intended for use in decorative garden plantings, including single and group forms, as well as for edging in semi-shaded areas.
