The shrub reaches a height of 90–120 cm. The inflorescences are flat-topped (lacecap type), where small central fertile flowers are surrounded by larger sterile flowers. Flowering occurs in late spring and early summer.
Flower color depends on soil pH. In acidic environments, fertile flowers acquire a saturated blue shade, while sterile flowers become pink with blue centers. The plant is used for planting in borders, gardens, and for container cultivation.
