The name Beni translates from Japanese as 'red' and denotes a group of varieties whose inflorescences acquire a pronounced reddish hue as they fade. The variety Beni-gaku is the most common representative of this group. The shrub has a rounded shape and reaches a height of 0.9 to 1.2 m.
The inflorescences are flat, consisting of central fertile flowers and large sterile ones at the margins. The color changes throughout the season, finishing in dark red or burgundy tones. The leaves are green, often with a bronze tint, and turn purple or red by autumn.
The plant blooms from early or mid-summer to autumn. It prefers partial shade and moist, fertile, acidic soils. Winter hardiness corresponds to USDA zones 6–9; the variety requires protection from drought and is suitable for use in borders, group plantings, and for cut flowers.

Green indicates countries where the variety is listed in the national catalogue and its seeds are authorized for sale. Expired registrations are marked separately: the variety was previously admitted, but sale is no longer permitted.
