M 2 is a clonal rootstock intended for vegetative propagation, not for fruit production. It was identified during the systematization of European rootstocks of the Doucin and Paradise types.
Trees grafted on this rootstock are characterized by moderate vigor and earlier onset of fruiting compared to trees on seedling rootstocks. In modern practice, this rootstock most often serves as a classical standard for comparison with new breeding lines.
