The M9EMLA rootstock is the result of cleaning the M9 clone from viruses within the framework of the EMLA program. It is used in commercial and amateur horticulture to limit the growth of apple varieties grafted onto it, ensuring tree compactness and high fruiting efficiency.
The root system of the rootstock is not sufficiently strong, so trees on M9EMLA require mandatory installation of trellises or individual supports. The rootstock propagates well by vertical layering and is resistant to collar rot, but shows sensitivity to fire blight.
The use of this rootstock contributes to obtaining high-quality fruit. At the same time, young trees are prone to excessive crop load, which requires fruit thinning to maintain their commercial size.
