The rootstock was developed through a breeding program from a cross between Malling 27 and Robusta 5. In terms of vigor, it occupies an intermediate position between M.9 and MM.106 rootstocks, ensuring the formation of trees with a more robust root system and trunk compared to the dwarf counterparts M.9 or M.26.
The main advantages of this rootstock are the high yield and cropping efficiency of trees grafted onto it. CG 202 possesses marked tolerance to fire blight caused by Erwinia amylovora, as well as good adaptation to transplanting conditions, exhibiting resistance to corresponding soil-borne diseases.
