In terms of vigor, G.16 is close to the M.9 rootstock, sometimes exhibiting slightly higher growth energy. It promotes the formation of wide crotch angles in the grafted variety and does not produce abundant root suckers or aerial roots.
The plant possesses high resistance to fire blight and tolerance to Phytophthora rot, yet remains susceptible to powdery mildew and woolly apple aphid. Due to the characteristics of the root system, trees on this rootstock require the mandatory installation of trellises or other supports to prevent lodging.
