The Lancep rootstock is a French clonal selection of M9. It is distinguished by its ability to control the vigor of the scion, which allows for the creation of dense plantations with a density of 1600 to 4000 trees per hectare. In terms of vigor, the rootstock is close to other M9 clones, exceeding the M9 NAKB 337 clone by 35–40%.
This rootstock promotes early entry into fruiting, high yields, and improved commercial quality of fruits. Resistance to crown rot (Phytophthora cactorum) and fire blight (Erwinia amylovora) is noted. The root system is moderately developed, therefore trees require trellises and an irrigation system, and are also sensitive to soil waterlogging.
Lancep propagates well vegetatively. The wood of the rootstock is characterized by fragility, which makes the installation of supports a critically important condition for the operation of intensive orchards.
