This rootstock limits scion growth to approximately 40% of the size of a tree on a seedling rootstock. Trees on this rootstock enter fruiting in the 2–3 year after planting and require constant support throughout their lifespan due to a shallow and brittle root system.
The rootstock provides high quality and fruit size, but is susceptible to fire blight and woolly apple aphid, while being resistant to Phytophthora root rot. Due to the location of the root system close to the soil surface, the rootstock has low winter hardiness.
The plant is very demanding regarding agronomic practices, requiring regular irrigation and stable nutrition. It performs poorly on heavy clay and poor sandy soils.
