The name «Colombino» is widely used in Italy as a commercial brand for olive oil and does not always refer to a biological plant variety. As a botanical name, it is encountered in various regions as a local synonym, in particular, as one of the names of the Morchiaio variety, also known under the names Bozzolo, Fecciaio and Morcaio.
As a variety (synonym of Morchiaio), the plant is characterized by low growth vigor, a vertical crown shape and late maturity. Due to the high level of ovary abortion, the variety is considered low-yielding and is used in agrotechnics primarily as a pollinator for other olive varieties, such as Moraiolo or Leccino.
1 jurisdiction
Green indicates countries where the variety is listed in the national catalogue and its seeds are authorized for sale. Expired registrations are marked separately: the variety was previously admitted, but sale is no longer permitted.
