The Comum variety, also known as Cercial, is a local Portuguese variety. Its main purpose is the production of olive oil. Currently, the plant is cultivated primarily in the Trás-os-Montes and Beira Interior regions.

Fruits of this variety have an average weight of 2 to 4 grams with a high pit weight of 0.3–0.45 grams, which results in a medium flesh-to-pit ratio. The variety is characterized by a medium onset of bearing and a tendency for biennial bearing.

Propagation of the variety is difficult due to the low rooting ability of semi-hardwood cuttings. In agricultural literature, the name Comum may have a descriptive meaning to denote common forms of olive, which requires clarification of the context when identifying the variety.
