Gentile di Chieti is a typical variety for the Abruzzo region, representing a vigorous spreading tree with a dense crown. The variety is distinguished by stable high productivity, good winter hardiness, and resistance to winds. Oil from the fruits of this variety has a harmonious taste with shades of grass, artichoke, almond, and tomato.

Gentile di Larino, common in the Molise region, is characterized by medium to high tree vigor. Its oil possesses a mild, fluid taste with pronounced notes of field herbs, almond, and a slight bitterness. There are also rare varieties, such as Gentile di Mafalda, valued for the aroma of unripe tomato, banana, and white apple.

The term «Gentile» in olive growing is often used as an addition to the geographical name of the area where a specific autochthonous variety grows. At the same time, the name can be used as a commercial designation for blended oils or canned fruits, which is not a botanical characteristic.
