The variety is a local cultivar growing in the hilly area around the commune of Mafalda. Both modern and centuries-old specimens are found, with ages ranging from 80 to 100 years. The plant is characterized as highly resilient, capable of self-selection and adaptation.

The yield of the variety is estimated as low. The fruits are used exclusively for the production of Extra Virgin oil with very low acidity and a high polyphenol content. The oil possesses a complex aromatic profile with hints of tomato leaves, banana, apple, basil, artichoke, chicory, and chili.
