The Ghiandere variety is an ancient local variety widespread in the province of Matera. The tree is characterized by medium-high vigor, spreading-ascending habit, and medium canopy density. The internode length is approximately 2.5 cm.
The produce of the variety is dual-purpose. Oil yield is estimated at an average level of about 18.7%, the flesh-to-pit ratio is approximately 4.45. Due to the existence of synonyms such as Ghiannara and Oliva grande, identification of the variety requires molecular and morphological studies.
