The variety has a long history of cultivation; its main areas are located in the central and northwestern parts of Sicily, as well as in Calabria and Apulia. The trees have medium vigor, with a spreading or upright canopy and strong, drooping branches.
The fruits are large, weighing from 6 to 15 grams, with an elliptical, slightly asymmetrical shape. When used for oil production, the product is characterized by a fruity aroma with notes of almond, artichoke, and tomato, with a mild sweet taste complemented by bitter and spicy undertones.
The variety is characterized by low yield and a tendency toward alternate bearing. It is sensitive to drought and is also susceptible to diseases such as peacock spot and olive knot.
