The variety belongs to traditional local forms cultivated in France for centuries and is not the result of artificial selection. Genetically, the variety was studied using SSR and RAPD methods, which allowed it to be distinguished from other representatives of the French olive gene pool.

The plant is classified as an oil variety. The variety is maintained in specialized genetic resource collections, including the Porquerolles collection, which ensures the preservation of its biological diversity.
