The variety was identified based on genetic and morphological characteristics of ancient trees from the Montecalvo area in the province of Bologna. It is included in the regional register of genetic resources and is authorized for use in the production of olive oil with the protected geographical indication (PGI) «Olio dei Colli di Bologna».

The fruits of the variety are medium-sized, ovoid in shape, and slightly asymmetric; the skin is smooth with small lenticels. The ripening period is medium and prolonged. The rooting ability of cuttings is evaluated as medium.
