The variety is autochthonous to the Reggio Emilia province and was identified during research into local genotypes. It received its name from the location where the mother plants were discovered in the Roncolo di Quattro Castella area.
The plant is characterized by late flowering and late fruit ripening, and possesses good productivity. The variety is recognized as having genetic value and is protected under regional biodiversity conservation programs.
Oil from olives of this variety has a medium-intensity fruity aroma with grassy notes, hints of artichoke, tomato, and almond. The flavor profile is balanced in terms of bitterness and pungency.
