The variety is a type of Olea europaea and belongs to local Italian varieties. It is distributed mainly in the Basilicata region, particularly in the province of Potenza, and is also found in some municipalities of the province of Salerno. In a number of sources, it is mentioned as a synonym for the Cioppella variety, and its current presence is characterized as limited and declining.

The fruits of the variety are intended exclusively for oil production. The variety has a high oil yield (approximately 21.35%). The morphological indicators of the fruit are characterized by an average pulp-to-pit ratio, which is 4.53 ± 0.24.
