The name Raffu may refer to the Giarraffa variety, which is a table cultivar, has a medium-sized tree with a spreading crown and very large fruits weighing 10–15 g. The variety enters bearing early, but is characterized by low and alternate yielding, as well as sensitivity to drought, olive knot, and Cycloconium oleaginum.
This name is also applied to the Ogliarola Messinese variety, which has dual-purpose use and high productivity with an oil content of more than 20%. The tree of this variety is self-fertile, tolerates drought, high temperatures, and cold well, is resistant to olive knot, but can be affected by the olive fruit fly and peacock spot.
