The Giarraffa variety (synonym Raffa) is characterized by very large fruits weighing 10–15 g with an elliptical, slightly asymmetrical shape. The tree has medium vigor and an upright canopy. The variety belongs to early maturity groups, enters bearing early, but has low productivity and a tendency toward alternate bearing.
The plant is sensitive to drought and such diseases as peacock spot and olive knot. Giarraffa is an ancient autochthonous variety, shaped by folk cultivation and widespread in the central and north-western parts of Sicily.
