The Santomauro variety is a local Olea europaea variety found in the Cosenza province of the Calabria region. Genetic studies using SSR molecular markers indicate a relationship between this variety and the Tondina variety.
The plant possesses an important economic trait—resistance to anthracnose, caused by the fungus Colletotrichum acutatum. The variety serves as a pollinator for other regional olives, particularly for the Cassanese variety, and is included in programs for the study and conservation of local genetic diversity.
